Vatican City: The situation regarding the bilateral pneumonia Pope Francis is being treated for at Rome’s Gemelli hospital is “stable”, Vatican sources said on Monday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the condition of the 88-year-old Argentine pontiff has experienced “a natural evolution for a person undergoing therapy” in recent days. Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized since February 14, reportedly “woke up, had breakfast and began the day’s therapies” on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, the Vatican Press Office announced that the pope had slept well throughout the night. Vatican sources indicated that his ability to rest well suggests that he is not receiving mechanical ventilation, with oxygen being administered via nasal cannulae.
In its latest medical update on Sunday, the Vatican confirmed the pope’s condition remained stable, adding that there have been no direct consequences from the respiratory attack he suffered on Friday.
