Teacher Stabbed for Refusing Man a Cigarette

Bassano del grappa: A 62-year-old teacher at the most prestigious high school in Bassano del Grappa near Vicenza was stabbed in the back Monday by a young man he had refused to give a cigarette to, the teacher told police after he was taken to hospital. The incident took place early Monday on one of Bassano’s main streets.

According to Ansa News Agency, the blade lodged in the teacher’s spinal column just millimetres from his aorta and bone marrow, as reported by doctors. He underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

The unexpected attack has shocked the local community, highlighting concerns over rising incidents of violence over trivial matters. The teacher’s condition is being closely monitored, and the local police are investigating the incident to apprehend the assailant.
