Tajani to Discuss Flotilla with Israeli Counterpart
Rome: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced his intention to engage in discussions with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar concerning the Global Sumud Flotilla’s attempt to breach Israel’s naval blockade to deliver aid to Gaza. Tajani, who also serves as deputy premier and leads the Forza Italia party, emphasized the risky nature of the operation.
According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani expressed his commitment to providing full consular support to Italians involved in the flotilla, should they encounter difficulties upon reaching Israeli territory. He has directed the Italian embassy to offer maximum assistance, particularly to Italian parliamentarians, in the event of any restrictive measures.
A group of Italian vessels, including activists and four Italian lawmakers from opposition parties, two Members of the European Parliament, a Senator, and a Lower House Member of Parliament, is expected to join the flotilla in the coming days. The flotilla reported that one of its boats was struck by a drone near Tunisia’s Sidi Bou Said port.
Tajani reiterated the government’s stance that delivering aid to Gaza is best achieved through institutional channels.
