Tajani Supports Von Der Leyen’s European Rearmament Plan


Rome: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Tuesday hailed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s announcement of a plan to ‘rearm Europe’ in response to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The plan, as outlined by von der Leyen, has the potential to mobilize close to 800 billion euros.



According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani, who also serves as deputy premier, emphasized the urgency of implementing the plan. Writing on X, Tajani expressed his approval of the initiative, stating, “Good von der Leyen: finally, concrete steps forward are being taken to build an indispensable European defense.”



Tajani highlighted the historical significance of the plan by referencing the aspirations of notable European figures. He remarked, “It was the great dream of De Gasperi and Berlusconi.” Tajani stressed the importance of realizing this vision promptly and effectively to enhance Europe’s strength within the framework of a strong alliance with the United States.
