Tajani Rejects Trade Wars, Seeks Agreement Amid Tariff Threats

Mexico City: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani declared opposition to trade wars, emphasizing “we want an agreement” following Donald Trump’s threat to impose 50% tariffs on EU goods entering the United States starting June 1.

According to Ansa News Agency, while officially stating “no comment” on Trump’s tariff statements regarding the EU, Tajani, who also serves as deputy premier, mentioned that they are awaiting the evening’s discussions between Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic and US counterparts.

Tajani, speaking from Mexico City, revealed he had an extensive phone conversation with Sefcovic discussing the content of their strategy. He reiterated their objective is to reach an agreement, stressing the goal of “zero duties-zero duties” and avoiding a trade war.
