Strike Confirmed, Appeal to Labour Court

Rome: Friday’s general strike against Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla bringing aid to Gaza has been confirmed by the unions, who will file an appeal with the labor court against the decision of the Strike Guarantee Commission declaring it unlawful due to the lack of notice.

According to Ansa News Agency, the review of the case will take several days. The unions are challenging the decision, hoping to overturn the ruling that deemed the strike unlawful. The Strike Guarantee Commission cited the absence of proper notice as the reason for its decision.

Regardless of the judge’s decision, there will be no sanctions or fines for the workers who joined the protest. In the absence of a notice of injunction, any fines-if imposed-would apply to the unions that called for the strike and cannot exceed 50,000 euros.
