Italian MPs and Journalists Detained in Israel Following Flotilla Mission

Rome: Italian MPs and reporters are among the Global Sumud Flotilla activists who have been taken to an Israeli jail pending expulsion after their aid mission failed, lawyers for the Italian Flotilla said Thursday. “At the moment, according to information received so far, the established plan is for all activists, including parliamentarians and journalists, to be taken to Ketziot prison, pending completion of all procedures for their repatriation,” they said.

According to Ansa News Agency, the detained individuals will be asked whether they intend to sign a document declaring themselves responsible for illegal entry into Israel and accepting deportation. If they agree to sign, they could be repatriated swiftly. The situation remains tense as legal and diplomatic efforts are underway to secure their release and return to Italy.
