Stellantis Revises Electric Vehicle Targets, Citing Market Challenges
Munich: Stellantis is no longer aiming to be a 100% producer of electric vehicles by 2030, with the EU’s Green transition targets deemed unachievable, the Italian-French-American auto group’s Chief Operating Officer for Europe, Jean-Philippe Imparato, announced at the Munich Motor Show.
According to Ansa News Agency, Imparato stated that Stellantis, known for brands such as Jeep, Peugeot, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and Chrysler, has begun reviewing its Dare Forward strategic plan under the leadership of new CEO Antonio Filosa. The COO noted that while much of the Dare Forward plan remains valid, certain elements, including the goal of 100% electrification by 2030, require reassessment due to market conditions.
Imparato highlighted the ongoing discussions with CEO Filosa, which started the previous week, emphasizing the necessity for Filosa to present a vision for Stellantis’s future over the next five to ten years. He expressed concern that the targets set by Europe for the automotive industry by 2
030 and 2035 are unrealistic unless a significant market downturn and the financial collapse of European manufacturers are assumed.
The COO welcomed a strategic dialogue on the evolution of regulations in Europe, underscoring its importance in the context of the automotive sector’s future developments.
