Spain and Italy Align on Defense Spending at NATO Summit

The Hague: Italy’s Premier Giorgia Meloni announced that Spain and Italy have unified their stance on increasing defense spending, having signed the same document at the NATO summit. This agreement aligns both nations with the commitment to elevate defense expenditures to 5% of their GDP.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni emphasized there was no distinction between the agreements made by Italy and Spain during the summit. She stated, “Italy did the same thing as Spain. Or Spain did the same thing as Italy, take your pick.” This indicates a shared commitment and understanding between the two countries regarding their defense policies.

Meloni further remarked that she observed no contentious discussions about the 5% defense spending agreement during the summit’s proceedings. Her comments suggested a harmonious and supportive environment among the participating nations, as she described the atmosphere with, “It was all hooray, bravo.”
