Sorrentino, Rosi, Marcello, Guadagnino Set for Venice

Venice: A week before the official press conference for the 82nd Venice Film Festival, reports have emerged about a potential lineup that highlights both Italian and international cinema.

According to Ansa News Agency, the festival, scheduled to run from August 27 to September 6, is rumored to feature a host of prominent filmmakers and actors.

In the realm of Italian series, Marco Bellocchio is expected to present episodes from his series “Portobello,” which focuses on the Enzo Tortora case. Another Italian entry, Antonio Capuano’s “Hungry Bird,” is anticipated to participate out of competition, presenting a legal drama surrounding a custody battle. Additionally, Paolo Strippoli’s horror film “The Valley of Smiles” and Leonardo Di Costanzo’s “Elisa” are also slated to be part of the festival offerings.

The Venice Days section is expected to showcase Bonifacio Angius’s “Confiteor – How I Discovered That I Wouldn’t Make a Revolution,” featuring actors Edoardo Pesce, Giuliana De Sio, and Geppi Cucciari. In the Orizzonti section, filmmakers Laura Samani and Carolina Cavalli will present “A Year of School” and “The Kidnapping of Arabella,” respectively.

Internationally, star-studded projects are set to make appearances. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt star in Benny Safdie’s “The Smashing Machine,” while Emma Stone reunites with Yorgos Lanthimos for “Bugonia.” Angelina Jolie is set to return with Alice Winocour’s “Couture.” Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver are expected in Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother,” and George Clooney stars in Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly.”

Other anticipated films include Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” and Kathryn Bigelow’s “A House of Dynamite.” Olivier Assayas’s “The Wizard of the Kremlin” and Julian Schnabel’s “In the Hand of Dante” are also likely to draw significant attention. Notably, films by female directors such as Chlo© Zhao, Mona Fastvold, Claire Denis, and Agnieszka Holland are also highlighted in the lineup.
