Pragmatic Solution Possible on Brenner Pass, Says Austrian Chancellor

Rome: A pragmatic solution is possible on the vexed question of truck transit at the Brenner Pass, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker told Premier Giorgia Meloni in Rome Tuesday. “We discussed the Brenner transit route, a challenge we must solve together, and I am very confident that we will succeed if we find a very pragmatic solution,” Stocker said in remarks to the press after his meeting with Meloni at her office in Palazzo Chigi.

According to Ansa News Agency, Stocker emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of rail transport and finding a digital system to manage the transit. He noted that widening the Brenner roads is not a viable solution and stressed the need to find an alternative approach. Stocker extended an invitation to President Meloni to visit Austria, expressing optimism that both countries could find a middle ground in the meantime.
