Skiing: Brignone Misses Out on SuperG Title

Sun Valley: Italy’s Federica Brignone missed out on this year’s World Cup SuperG title, coming third to winner Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland in the last race of the season at Sun Valley on Sunday. The Val d’Aosta-born athlete, 34, had secured the overall title and the downhill trophy when the final downhill event of the season was canceled due to heavy snow on Saturday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Swiss skier Gut-Behrami won the last SuperG by 1.2 seconds ahead of 40-year-old American Lindsey Vonn, with Brignone finishing third, thereby losing the title. Brignone, Italy’s most successful female skier, had been leading by five points ahead of Gut-Behrami going into the race, but the Swiss skier delivered an impressive performance.
