Situation Very Serious Says Pope After Qatar Attack

Rome: Pope Leo XIV expressed concern on Tuesday after Israel’s military conducted air strikes targeting senior Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital Doha. “In the last few minutes there has been really serious news, the attack by Israel against some of Hamas’s leaders in Qatar,” the American pontiff said as he left the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. “The whole situation is very serious. We don’t know where things are going. We have to pray.”

According to Ansa News Agency, the recent air strikes have heightened tensions in the region, prompting international calls for restraint and dialogue. The unexpected escalation has drawn reactions from global leaders, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to avoid further conflict.

The situation remains fluid as diplomatic efforts are underway to address the repercussions of the strikes. Pope Leo XIV’s remarks underscore the urgency of the matter, as the international community watches closely for any developments in the ongoing crisis.
