Seven Missing After Falling Into Sea During Mediterranean Crossing

Lampedusa: A group of migrants saved by the Aurora Sar NGO-run rescue ship reported that seven individuals went missing after falling into the sea amid rough waters in the southern Mediterranean during a crossing from North Africa. The Aurora Sar docked at the Italian island of Lampedusa early on Wednesday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the survivors, comprising Eritreans, Ethiopians, Malaysians, and Sudanese nationals, recounted that the seven individuals fell into the water due to the choppy conditions and were unable to be helped back into the dinghy they were aboard. The survivors detailed that two individuals fell into the sea on the first night of the crossing, which had begun late on August 27 from Zuara in Libya, while five others went missing during the following night.

The migrants disclosed that they paid 800 euros each for the perilous crossing, underscoring the risks and challenges faced by those attempting to reach Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
