Second Botulism Victim Dies in Sardinia After Consuming Tainted Guacamole

Sardinia: A second botulism victim died in a Sardinian hospital Tuesday, weeks after eating tainted guacamole that killed the first victim at a Latino festival in Cagliari at the end of July. Valeria Sollai, 62, died overnight at the Monserrato Polyclinic Hospital.

According to Ansa News Agency, she had been in intensive care at the university hospital for weeks after attending and consuming guacamole-based dishes at the Fiesta Latina in late July in Monserrato, a city outside Cagliari. On August 8, 36-year-old Roberta Pitzalis died, also poisoned by the killer bacteria at the same event.

This further aggravates the situation of the only suspect, Christian Gustavo Vincenti, the owner of the kiosk where the contaminated products were consumed.
