Scorching Heat Wave Grips Central and Northern Italy with Record Temperatures

Rome: Italy is experiencing an intense heat wave, with temperatures soaring over 40°C and a series of tropical nights gripping central and northern regions. The African anticyclone has enveloped southern Europe, causing high pressure and significant heat across France and parts of Italy, reminiscent of the summer of 2003.

According to Ansa News Agency, Lorenzo Tedici, a meteorologist and media director for iLMeteo.it, noted that temperatures from Morocco to Spain, France, and into Italy are surpassing 40°C. France is experiencing temperature peaks of up to 44°C in August, breaking national records with a 12°C rise above average.

Tedici highlighted that Italy is also witnessing record-breaking heat, particularly at night, with minimum temperatures not dipping below 30°C. This phenomenon has been especially pronounced in Liguria, where Alassio, a resort near Genoa, recorded a night-time low of 32.5°C.

Milan has faced tropical nights at 27°C and daytime highs of 37°C, mirroring conditions typical of North African cities. Tuscany and Umbria have endured four consecutive days of 40°C temperatures, notably affecting cities like Florence and Terni. In Rome, maximum temperatures have reached between 38-39°C.

Forecasts predict that Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio will continue to see maximum temperatures of 39-40°C until Saturday. A slight temperature decrease of 1-2 degrees is expected between Sunday and Tuesday, with a more significant drop anticipated by mid-next week.

Tedici predicts that temperatures will plummet between August 20th and 21st, with the potential arrival of wind, rain, and hail. Following this weather change, the sun is expected to return, bringing more bearable temperatures to the region.
