Schlein Urges Government to Repeal Autonomy Law Following Court Ruling

ROME: Democratic Party leader Elly Schlein has called on the government to repeal a controversial law that allows regions to seek greater control over local tax revenues, following a supreme court decision enabling a referendum on the issue.

According to Ansa News Agency, Schlein, who leads Italy’s largest opposition party, emphasized in an interview with private television channel LA7 that the government’s credibility is at stake. She urged the cabinet to cease ongoing negotiations and abolish the differentiated autonomy law, which she described as flawed in light of the supreme Cassation Court’s ruling. The court’s decision has paved the way for a referendum to potentially overturn the measure.
