Sardinia Becomes Second Italian Region to Approve End-of-Life Law
Sardinia: Sardinia has officially become the second Italian region to approve a law that regulates end-of-life issues, following in the footsteps of Tuscany. The regional council passed a bill submitted by the right-to-die association Luca Coscioni. This organization has been actively campaigning for Italy to legalize assisted suicide, and it recently expanded its efforts to aid terminally ill individuals in ending their lives within Italy, rather than traveling to the Dignitas Clinic in Zurich.
According to Ansa News Agency, the newly enacted Sardinian law mirrors that of Tuscany and seeks to implement procedures concerning the timing of healthcare assistance for physician-assisted suicide. This legislative move is a direct response to a 2019 ruling by the Constitutional Court, which called on lawmakers to address the legal gaps in end-of-life matters, including voluntary euthanasia.
