Reviving Economic Growth Beyond 1% Is Crucial, Says Bank of Italy Governor Panetta
Rome: Reviving growth beyond the government’s “struggling” target of 1% is essential, Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta said on World Savings Day Tuesday.
According to Ansa News Agency, Panetta emphasized the importance of increasing the economy’s growth rate beyond the current 1% level. He highlighted the need to prepare for a future where the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) funds will no longer be available. In his speech, Panetta stressed the importance of focusing on growth and the expansion of domestic demand.
Panetta pointed out that strengthening the innovative capacity of the production system is crucial to achieving growth. This can be accomplished by directing resources toward high-tech investments. He also noted that Italy’s banks are solid and should leverage their resources to boost economic growth. Additionally, Panetta mentioned that fiscal stability boosts confidence in Italy and that there is potential for further improvements in Italy’s credit ratings.
