London: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Argentine President Javier Milei on Monday paid tribute to Pope Francis who has died at 88. Francis “promoted a more equal world” and his efforts will have “a lasting legacy,” said Starmer, adding that “his leadership in a complex and challenging period for the world and the Church has been courageous, but has always sprung from a deep humility.”
According to Ansa News Agency, it was also announced that flags will be flown at half-mast on government buildings in the United Kingdom from today until 8pm (9pm in Italy) tomorrow.
Milei said on X: “It is with deep sorrow that I learned this sad news this morning: Pope Francis, Jorge Bergoglio, passed away today and rests in peace. Despite the differences that today seem minor, having been able to have known him in his goodness and wisdom was a true honor for me. As President, as an Argentine and, fundamentally, as a man of faith, I salute the Holy Father and accompany all those who today find themselves facing this sad news.”
