Pope Spent Night Without Mechanical Ventilation
Rome: Pope Francis spent the night without mechanical ventilation, the Vatican said Tuesday as he continues to battle pneumonia in a Rome hospital. Last night, it said, the 88-year-old Argentine pontiff did not use mechanical ventilation but was helped with high-flow oxygen.
According to Ansa News Agency, “So no mask for the whole night,” the Vatican press office reported. “Caution is still needed because it is not a definitive stop but a progressive reduction,” it added. Just as during the day, high-flow oxygen is being reduced to switch to ordinary oxygenation.
