Pope Francis Shows Improvement as He Resumes Therapies in Vatican Hospital
Vatican City: Pope Francis is reportedly in a good mood, attributed to his improved health, and is engaging in conversations with those around him. According to Vatican sources speaking on Tuesday morning, the pontiff has resumed his therapies, which include pharmacological treatments as well as respiratory and motor physiotherapy.
According to Ansa News Agency, the Vatican Press Office confirmed that Pope Francis is continuing to participate in the Lenten spiritual exercises “in communion” with the Curia via video. The press office also mentioned that the pope had another “restful night” at Rome’s Gemelli hospital.
On Monday, the Vatican announced a significant step forward in the pope’s recovery from bilateral pneumonia, stating that his prognosis had been ‘dissolved’ after more than three weeks of being “guarded.” Despite this progress, doctors emphasized that the 88-year-old Argentine pontiff, who was admitted to the hospital on February 14, still requires ongoing hospital treatment.
“Given the complexity of the Pope’s clinical picture and the severe infection present at the time of hospitalization, it will still be necessary to continue pharmacological treatment in a hospital setting for a period of time,” the Vatican Press Office noted.
No medical bulletin is scheduled for release on Tuesday evening, though the Vatican Press Office will provide any necessary updates later in the day. While a new press briefing with the medical team treating the pontiff is possible, it is not expected imminently, Vatican sources added.
