Vatican City: The Vatican on Tuesday released a poignant image of Pope Francis lying in an open coffin in the chapel of Santa Marta, the residence inside the Vatican where he lived, after the Argentine pontiff passed away at the age of 88 on Monday. The photograph captures the late pontiff dressed in a red robe, adorned with a white mitre on his head, and holding a rosary in his hand, symbolizing his devout faith and service to the Church.
According to Ansa News Agency, Holy See Press Office Director Matteo Bruni informed journalists on Monday that the body of Pope Francis is expected to be moved to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday. This transfer will allow the faithful and devotees of the Church to pay their final respects to the venerable leader who led the Catholic Church with dedication.
The first General Congregation of Cardinals since the pope’s passing is scheduled to convene on Tuesday. During this assembly, the cardinals are anticipated to decide upon a date for the funeral, ensuring a fitting farewell to a pontiff who touched the lives of many around the world.
