Pope Francis Gradually Resuming Duties Following Pneumonia Recovery

Vatican City: Pope Francis is “gradually” resuming his official duties as he recovers from a bout of pneumonia, according to the Vatican Press Office. The announcement comes as the 88-year-old pontiff returns to his responsibilities at the head of the Catholic Church.

According to Ansa News Agency, Pope Francis recently held a meeting with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. In addition to in-person meetings, the pope is actively receiving documents and maintaining contact with the Roman Curia, the administrative body of the Vatican that manages the affairs of the Catholic Church.

The Argentine pontiff had been hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli hospital for 38 days due to bilateral pneumonia. He was discharged on March 23 and was advised by the Vatican to undergo two months of convalescence following his hospital stay.
