Pope Francis Faces Extended Recovery Following Respiratory Crisis

Rome: One of Italy’s top lung experts has indicated that Pope Francis will require two months for a full respiratory recovery following an unexpected respiratory crisis on Friday. It will take at least a week to establish a clear prognosis.

According to Ansa News Agency, Stefano Nardini, former president of the Italian Society of Pneumology, stated that Friday’s crisis has compromised the recovery outlook that had been laboriously achieved over the past few days, consequently lengthening the timescale for discharge.

Nardini elaborated that in a situation like this, with a similar clinical picture, it could take at least a week to resolve the prognosis and a couple of months for full respiratory recovery. He discussed the potential future path for a patient in the pope’s condition if everything were to proceed optimally.

“The time for hospitalization is longer,” Nardini noted. “In this situation, non-invasive ventilation with an oxygen mask and increased pressure is useful. But it could take at least a week to resolve the prognosis.”

He further explained that once the prognosis is resolved, a therapeutic path will need to be decided, and only then will the times for a possible discharge become clearer. However, to return to a state of full respiratory recovery, at least a couple of months will be necessary.
