Pope Francis Expresses Gratitude to Doctors, Continues Hospital Treatment for Bronchitis

Rome: Pope Francis expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals caring for him at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Hospital, acknowledging his ongoing need for therapy to treat bronchitis, as conveyed in the text of his Angelus address released by the Vatican on Sunday. The 88-year-old pontiff, originally from Argentina, did not deliver the address himself, as doctors have advised him to rest following his hospital admission on Friday.

According to Ansa News Agency, Vatican Press Office Director Matteo Bruni reported on Sunday that the Pope had a restful night, enjoying breakfast and his customary reading of newspapers. The Vatican had previously announced on Saturday that medical tests revealed a “respiratory tract infection,” although there had been improvements in some of his health parameters.

In his Angelus message, Pope Francis extended his greetings to participants of a Jubilee event for artists. He expressed regret for his absence, citing his need for continued treatment at the hospital. The Pope conveyed appreciation for the support and prayers he has received and thanked the hospital staff for their diligent care, urging continued prayers for them.

Pope Francis also appealed for prayers for peace in regions experiencing conflict, including Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, the Middle East, Myanmar, Kivu, and Sudan.
