Pope Francis Communicates Through Silence Amid Speech Difficulties

Rome: Pope Francis is currently experiencing difficulty in speaking but remains able to communicate through his silence, as stated by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi in an interview with Rome daily Il Messaggero. The Pope, aged 88, was discharged from the hospital on Sunday after a 38-day battle with pneumonia and is expected to undergo a recovery period of at least two months.

According to Ansa News Agency, Cardinal Ravasi expressed confidence that the Pontiff will continue to convey messages, even in silence. “Communication isn’t only made of sounds, it isn’t only verbal,” Ravasi emphasized, suggesting that significant accomplishments can be achieved despite personal limitations.

When questioned about the upcoming Easter celebrations and the canonization of Carlo Acutis, Cardinal Ravasi indicated that he did not foresee “great problems.” He commented on the prevalent societal tendency to equate limitations with incapacity, stating, “Unfortunately there is often the temptation of filtering reality through functionality, an anxiety to perform brought to its extreme by the dominating culture which translates, if one is limited, into inducing them to do nothing, setting them aside.”
