PNA Pursues Meeting with Pope Leo XIV to Discuss Gaza Situation

Vatican City: The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is actively seeking to arrange a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, as revealed by Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh in an interview with the Italian Catholic newspaper Avvenire. The PNA aims to discuss the ongoing situation in Gaza and express gratitude for the Church’s commitment to aiding the region.

According to Ansa News Agency, al-Sheikh emphasized the urgency of this meeting, stating, “We are working to meet him soon.” The American pontiff recently expressed his concern over the situation in Gaza, urging for aid to be allowed into the Strip during his general audience at Saint Peter’s Square.

Al-Sheikh acknowledged the pope’s compassionate stance, saying, “We are grateful for his words and for the Church’s commitment.” He further clarified his viewpoint, noting, “I do not look at things from an ideological perspective. I have nothing against Jews, but I have the right and the duty to criticise Israel’s policies.”

Moreover, al-Sheikh highlighted the importance of protecting the presence of Christians in the region and encouraging those who have emigrated to return. The PNA’s efforts to meet with Pope Leo XIV underscore their commitment to addressing these concerns collaboratively.
