Bishkek: Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that Hungary highly values Kyrgyzstan for its role in promoting global security. After meeting the Kyrgyz president on Tuesday, PM Orbán praised Kyrgyzstan’s dependable action against terrorist organizations and its pro-peace stance. He emphasized that Hungary flourishes during peaceful times and expressed his satisfaction that Kyrgyzstan also supports peace.
According to About Hungary, PM Orbán mentioned Hungary’s efforts, as an EU member, to assist Kyrgyzstan in European political forums, aiming to ensure extensive cooperation with the bloc. He noted that bilateral relations have elevated to a strategic partnership, with two-way trade expected to double this year. At their previous meeting, the Kyrgyz president suggested focusing on hydropower and agriculture, leading to the establishment of a Hungarian-Kyrgyz investment fund to finance a hydroelectric power plant and agricultural initiatives. Furthermore, PM Orbán assured the Kyrgyz president of Hungary’s support for the Kyrgyz initiative to protect mountain culture and way of life at the upcoming Coptic summit in Baku. Additionally, 200 Kyrgyz students are currently studying in Hungary on scholarships, and Hungary is prepared to welcome more students due to high demand. Orbán expressed his gratitude for the inclusion of Hungarian language studies in Kyrgyzstan.
PM Orbán highlighted that Hungary joined the Turkic Council in Kyrgyzstan six years ago, becoming a political member of the community. He noted that Budapest will host an informal Turkish Council meeting in 2025. He acknowledged that despite Hungarians’ migration from the East to the West, they maintain friendly and fraternal relations with Turkic peoples, including the Kyrgyz.
During his official visit, PM Orbán and high-level Kyrgyz officials are scheduled to sign several agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation. The prime minister will also attend a
meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organisation of Turkic States in Bishkek on Wednesday.
