Brussels: György Hölvényi, a member of the European Parliament, criticized the left wing of the European Parliament for prioritizing party politics and hatred over professional competence. In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Christian Democrat politician expressed his concerns regarding the treatment of Hungarian Commissioner-designate Olivér Várhelyi.
According to KDNP, Hölvényi noted that despite Várhelyi providing high-quality and professionally flawless answers during his hearing on Wednesday evening, the left wing showed little interest in his competence. Instead of granting immediate approval, they demanded additional responses from Várhelyi. Hölvényi remarked that this practice is reminiscent of darker times.
Hölvényi emphasized that all candidate commissioners are expected to view member states’ governments as partners, adhere to basic treaty provisions, and respect national sovereignty. He asserted that Olivér Várhelyi meets these conditions perfectly.
