PM Orbán Criticizes EPP’s Vision for Europe, Claims Threat to Hungarian Sovereignty

BUDAPEST: Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed concerns on Friday over the European People’s Party’s vision for Europe, asserting that its implementation could negatively impact Hungary. He alleged that Brussels is intent on installing a government in Hungary that aligns with its own interests, thereby replacing the current administration.

According to About Hungary, PM Orbán responded to an image circulated by the EPP, featuring himself alongside the phrase “Time to go.” This, he suggested, might be due to Hungary’s stance on the ongoing war. He emphasized that he had previously advocated for the German chancellor and the French president to initiate discussions with Russian representatives, independently or on Europe’s behalf, prior to the involvement of the United States.

PM Orbán further claimed that the EPP escalated tensions during the recent European Parliament debate by declaring its desire to replace Hungary’s government with one of its own affiliates. This move, he argued, would enable the implem
entation of policies favorable to Brussels, such as accepting migrants, participating in the war, endorsing gender ideologies, and dismantling Hungary’s child protection laws.

Additionally, PM Orbán highlighted the EPP’s economic demands, which include ceasing taxation of multinational corporations and reducing regulatory pressures on banks operating in Hungary.
