PD MPs on Flotilla Commit to Comply with IDF Orders During Gaza Aid Mission

Rome: Centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD) MPs on board the Global Sumud Flotilla for Gaza declared their intention to halt at the first order from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) while on their mission to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip. The flotilla, which includes the ship Karma, seeks to provide humanitarian assistance without engaging in any form of blockade-running.

According to Ansa News Agency, PD MP Arturo Corrato, representing the crew of the Karma, emphasized the mission’s peaceful nature and the flotilla’s commitment to non-violence. Speaking on behalf of the crew, which also includes Democratic Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Annalisa Corrado, Corrato stated, “We don’t want to force blockades but to bring aid.” He further remarked that Israel’s actions in international waters are illegal, yet the flotilla will comply with any halt orders issued by Israel.

Corrato stressed the mission’s adherence to peaceful principles, noting, “I believe none of the vessels want to force the blockade, because this is a peaceful and non-violent mission: these have been the rules of engagement from the beginning.” He called for governmental intervention to lift what he described as an illegal blockade, while also affirming the flotilla’s resolve to proceed despite warnings from the Italian Navy. The mission will continue unabated in international waters, undeterred by potential opposition from nations like Israel.
