PD MEP Ricci Among 24 Probed in Pesaro Graft Case

Pesaro: Matteo Ricci, an MEP for the Democratic Party (PD) and the centre-left’s governor candidate for September’s regional elections in Marche, has revealed that he has been notified he is under investigation in a probe into corruption relating to his time as the mayor of the city of Pesaro.

According to Ansa News Agency, Ricci is among 24 people who are under investigation in relation to contracts awarded by the Pesaro City Council between 2014 and 2019. In a video message, Ricci expressed surprise about the probe but maintained that he was not worried because he believes he had done nothing wrong.

The case emerges following the investigation of Milan’s centre-left Mayor Giuseppe Sala, who is among dozens of other suspects in a separate probe into construction and urban-planning projects in Italy’s financial capital.
