Paris Urged to Exercise Restraint Amid Diplomatic Tensions
Rome: Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini’s League party foreign affairs pointman has called for Paris to exercise restraint after recent diplomatic tensions. The tensions escalated when Paris summoned the US ambassador to express concerns over anti-Semitism, following a previous incident where Salvini criticized President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to send troops to monitor a Ukraine peace agreement.
According to Ansa News Agency, Lega MP Paolo Formentini, who leads the League’s Foreign Affairs Department, commented on the situation, stating, “First the overreaction to Matteo Salvini’s simple and respectful opinions against sending European soldiers to Ukraine, now the attack against the United States regarding anti-Semitism and the summoning of the ambassador.”
Formentini emphasized the sensitivity of the current international climate, urging for a display of common sense and composure. He expressed hope that all parties involved would find the necessary calm, particularly urging Paris to refrain from further diplomatic actions such as summoning ambassadors from various countries.
