Oseghale Life Term Upheld for Murder of Mastropietro

Rome: The Supreme Court of Cassation on Friday upheld a life term for Nigerian pusher Innocent Oseghale for the murder and rape of 18-year-old Roman woman Pamela Mastropietro outside Macerata in Marche in January 2018 and the dismemberment of her corpse.

According to Ansa News Agency, the defense lawyers of Oseghale, 36, had filed an extraordinary appeal to exclude the charge of sexual violence from the conviction, citing alleged errors during the proceedings, and to annul the life-imprisonment sentence. However, the Cassation judges announced on Friday that they have rejected the appeal.

Mastropietro’s murder led to a reaction from a rightwing militant, Luca Traini, who shot and wounded six African migrants in a drive-by shooting in Macerata days later. Traini was sentenced to 12 years in jail for this act in March 2021.
