Number of Dads Taking Paternity Leave Has Trebled Since 2013

Rome: The number of fathers taking parental leave in Italy has significantly increased, tripling between 2013 and 2022, according to a study conducted by social security and pensions agency INPS and Save the Children, which was published on Monday.

According to Ansa News Agency, the study revealed that 19.2% of fathers who were eligible for paternity pay took parental leave in 2013. This figure rose to 64.5% in 2022, indicating a growing trend among fathers to utilize paternity leave.

Despite this increase, the study noted that over 35% of eligible fathers did not take paternity leave in 2022. The reluctance was particularly pronounced among workers with short-term contracts and employees of small companies, as highlighted by the survey based on 2022 data.
