No List of Papal Candidates Announced Ahead of Conclave
Vatican City: Cardinal Virgilio do Carmo da Silva, the Archbishop of Dili in East Timor, announced that the cardinals have not yet finalized a list of potential candidates for the papacy. This declaration came as the cardinals prepared for the last general congregation on Tuesday, prior to the commencement of the Conclave on Wednesday.
According to Ansa News Agency, Cardinal do Carmo da Silva responded to inquiries about a shortlist of contenders by stating, “Not yet, maybe tomorrow.” He emphasized that the cardinals are currently focused on understanding the various situations of the Church globally. When questioned about the potential length of the Conclave, he expressed uncertainty, saying, “I don’t know.”
The majority of cardinals have chosen not to comment publicly as they proceed with the congregation, maintaining a silence that underscores the gravity and confidentiality of the proceedings.
