Ninth Day of Pro-Russia Cyber Attacks on Italian Sites

Rome: A pro-Russian hacker group, Noname057(16), staged for the ninth consecutive morning on Tuesday a new wave of cyberattacks against Italian websites, specifically targeting local administrations. The provinces of Trapani, Ragusa, Caltanissetta, Enna, the municipality of Catania, and the Puglia region were among those affected by the attacks.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Agency for National Cybersecurity has alerted the targets and authorities and is providing help to mitigate the impact of the attacks. The cyberattacks have previously targeted Italian institutions, including ministries, the Carabinieri and Finance police forces, some transport companies, financial institutions, airports, and port authorities, as well as arms industries.

The hacker group has linked the first attack to President Sergio Mattarella recently comparing Russia to the Third Reich in relation to its invasion of Ukraine. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Mattarella’s comments will not go “without consequences”.
