Necessary Rules in Security Decree, No Blitz Says Meloni

Rome: The government’s new security decree contains necessary rules and there has been no government ‘blitz’ to push through the measures as alleged by the opposition, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Friday. “These are necessary rules that we can no longer postpone,” she stated, emphasizing the urgency and importance of the decree.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni, in agreement with Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini, announced the decision to transform the text of the security package currently being examined by Parliament into a decree-law. This move ensures that the measures become immediately operational and enforceable. During a cabinet meeting that approved the rule, Meloni underscored the government’s commitment to providing timely solutions to citizens and ensuring protection for security personnel.

Meloni addressed criticisms from opposition parties, dismissing claims of a ‘shortcut’ or ‘blitz’. She asserted that the government’s actions were legitimate and aimed at fulfilling commitments to citize
ns and those tasked with national security. The decree, Meloni highlighted, includes specific legal protections for personnel in the defense, security, and public rescue sectors.

The provisions ensure that police officers and military personnel under investigation or charged for service-related incidents can continue their duties without personal financial burden. The State will cover legal costs up to ten thousand euros for each phase of the procedure. Meloni described this measure as a long-awaited rule, fulfilling a duty to support and protect the police forces.
