‘Ndrangheta Informer Arrested in Equalize Probe

Rome: An informer of the notorious ‘bomb-laying Ndrangheta’, a violent faction of the Calabrian mafia, Nunziatino Romeo, who is associated with the Barbaro-Papalia family, was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into the Equalize case involving alleged cyber espionage.

According to Ansa News Agency, the investigation, led by the Carabinieri ROS, is centered on charges of attempted extortion with mafia-related aggravating circumstances. As part of the probe, authorities also conducted approximately ten searches.

In a related development, Carmine Gallo, a former senior police officer linked to the investigation into the alleged espionage network, passed away from a heart attack at 66 years old at his home in the Milan province on March 9. Gallo was reportedly one of the main figures in a group that illegally accessed confidential information from national databases concerning business, political, and entertainment personalities, along with former Milan Fair Foundation president Enrico Pazzali.

The unauthorized data collection was allegedly facilitated through Pazzali’s Equalize agency.
