Meloni to Propose Zero Tariff Strategy to President Trump

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni announced her intention to propose a “zero for zero” tariff strategy during her upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on April 17. This approach aims to eliminate reciprocal duties on existing industrial products between the European Union and the United States.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni discussed this strategy during tariff talks with various business sectors in Rome. She emphasized that Italy has been a leading advocate for this initiative, which was also supported by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Meloni noted the readiness of both the President of the Commission and the Commissioner for Trade to engage in negotiations on this matter.

The Italian Premier underscored the importance of collaborative efforts at all levels to achieve this goal. “This is the negotiation that must see us all engaged and at all levels,” she stated, highlighting her commitment to addressing the issue directly with President Trump during her visit to Washington.
