Government Allocates 25 Billion Euros to Counter Tariff Impacts on Italian Businesses
Rome: The government is set to earmark some 25 billion euros from a review of the National Recovery and Resilience Fund (NRRP) and from cohesion funds in order to help ease the pain of Donald Trump’s tariffs for Italian businesses, Premier Giorgia Meloni said after meeting category leaders Tuesday.
According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni highlighted that approximately 14 billion euros have been identified within the financial allocation of the Italian Recovery and its next review. These funds are expected to be remodeled to support employment and increase productivity efficiency. These adjustments come as a response to the impacts of the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, which have affected various sectors of the Italian economy.
Meloni also mentioned the review of the cohesion policy, recently approved by the European Commission, as another opportunity to support the affected businesses. Approximately 11 billion euros from this review can be reprogrammed in favor of companies, workers, and sectors that may be most impacted by the tariffs. The reprogramming will be carried out in agreement with the European Commission, ensuring that the funds are directed where they are most needed.
