Meloni Discusses Defence Investments with Costa Ahead of European Summit
Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni has spoken on the phone with the President of the European Council Antonio Costa ahead of an informal summit on European defence scheduled to take place on February 3, according to a note issued by her office at Palazzo Chigi on Tuesday.
According to Ansa News Agency, during the conversation, Meloni emphasized the importance of strengthening the European pillar of NATO. She highlighted the need to boost the competitiveness of the European defence industry through comprehensive EU initiatives and programs in the defence sector.
The note also detailed that Meloni and Costa agreed on the significance and urgency of developing new and more effective tools to support necessary investments in defence. The leaders underscored the need for significant financial commitments to enhance European defence capabilities.
