Meloni Criticizes Landini for ‘Courtesan’ Comment

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni on Thursday criticized CGIL union leader Maurizio Landini for his recent remarks, in which he referred to her as a “courtesan” of United States President Donald Trump. Meloni pointed out that the term is often used as a euphemism for a prostitute, which she found offensive.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni expressed her disapproval on social media, addressing the language used by Landini. She commented that the CGIL general secretary, seemingly overwhelmed by increasing resentment, had resorted to such terminology during a television broadcast. To clarify the implications of the word “courtesan” for those unfamiliar with its common usage, Meloni posted a dictionary definition, highlighting its meaning as “a woman of easy virtue, heterosexual; euphemism: prostitute.”

Meloni further criticized what she described as a contradiction within the political Left, which she accused of preaching respect for women while resorting to derogatory terms to criticize a female leader in the absence of substantive arguments. Her social media post underscored her stance against the use of such language in political discourse.
