Meloni Condemns Council of Europe’s Accusations Against Italian Police

Rome: The charges against Italian police of being racist leveled by a Council of Europe panel are simply shameful, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Wednesday. “The words spoken by the Commission against Racism and Intolerance of the Council of Europe, which accuse the Italian Police Forces of racism, are simply shameful,” she wrote on X.

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in Italy. She stated that there are numerous incidents where police officers are assaulted, often by illegal immigrants, while they perform their duties with courage, dedication, and respect for the law.

Meloni further criticized the Council of Europe, emphasizing that this is not the first instance where some of its bodies, funded by Italian citizens, have passed what she described as unfounded judgments. She attributed these claims to an ideological approach and apparent prejudices.
