Meloni Announces Naples to Host 2027 America’s Cup

Naples: Premier Giorgia Meloni announced on Thursday that Naples will host the 2027 America’s Cup. “I am proud to announce that the America’s Cup will be held, for the first time in history, in Italy,” said Meloni. “Naples will be the city that will host the 38th edition of the world’s most famous and prestigious sailing tournament in 2027, a global event that involves millions of enthusiasts and represents a unique synthesis of tradition, technological innovation, engineering excellence, and competitive spirit.”

According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni extended her gratitude to Sport and Youth Minister Andrea Abodi, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, the Sport e Salute agency, and all those who worked with determination to achieve this result. Meloni emphasized that the selection of Naples will help reinforce the role of southern Italy, which has experienced above-average GDP and employment growth recently.

Meloni highlighted that hosting the America’s Cup will accelerate the redevelopment and regeneration of the Bagnoli area, transforming it into a modern tourist, seaside, and commercial hub. She stated that the choice of Italy reflects the nation’s identity, deeply connected with the sea, which plays a crucial role in its history, culture, and economy. Italy’s leadership in the nautical, shipbuilding, shipping, and cruise industries, as well as other sectors related to the blue economy, underscores its capability to host such a prestigious event.
