May Retail Sales Experience Monthly Decline But Annual Growth
Rome: In May 2025, retail sales witnessed a cyclical decline, with a decrease of 0.4% in value and 0.5% in volume, as reported by Istat on Friday. The report highlights a downturn in the retail sector for the month, reflecting various market dynamics.
According to Ansa News Agency, sales of food products saw a reduction, with a 0.9% decrease in value and a 1.2% decrease in volume, while sales of non-food products remained stable. Despite the monthly decline, on a yearly comparison, retail sales recorded a 1.3% increase in value, though there was a 0.3% volume decrease.
The annual data further indicate that sales of food products increased in value by 2.5% but experienced a 0.4% volume decline. Similarly, non-food products saw a value increase of 0.4% with a slight volume decrease of 0.1%.
