Mattarella Sends Well Wishes to Pope for Vatican Return

Rome: President Sergio Mattarella on Monday extended his well wishes to Pope Francis, who returned to the Vatican on Sunday after a five-week hospital stay battling double pneumonia. This health issue marked the most serious crisis of his 12-year papacy.

According to Ansa News Agency, President Mattarella expressed his joy at the Pope’s return during an event at the Village “Agricoltura ¨” commemorating the anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. He conveyed hopes for Pope Francis’s full recovery.

The 88-year-old Argentine pontiff is expected to spend the next two months convalescing after the severe health scare that twice brought him close to critical danger.
