Instigation to Suicide Probe Opened for Trans TikToker

Monza: Prosecutors in Monza have launched an investigation into potential instigation to suicide following the tragic death of a 21-year-old individual who ended his life after facing online ridicule and hatred. The young man, Davide Garufo, who had been sharing his gender transition journey on TikTok, took his life on March 19 at his residence in Sesto San Giovanni, near Milan.

According to Ansa News Agency, despite the initiation of the probe, law enforcement officials have indicated that the investigation is not directly linked to the social media messages Garufo received. The case has drawn attention to the challenges faced by individuals documenting their personal transitions online, and the potential impact of cyberbullying on mental health.
