Mattarella, Meloni at Funeral of Cops Killed in Eviction

Padua: President Sergio Mattarella and Premier Giorgia Meloni will attend the State funeral of three Carabinieri police officers who were killed in a gas-canister trap explosion during an eviction near Verona Tuesday at Padua’s Basilica of Santa Giustina on Friday. The tragic incident has drawn significant attention nationwide, leading to a day of national mourning declared by the government in honor of the fallen officers.

According to Ansa News Agency, the three officers – Marco Piffari, Davide Bernardello, and Valerio Dapr  – lost their lives in the explosion at a farmhouse in Castel D’Azzano. The circumstances of the explosion have not only highlighted the dangers faced by law enforcement officers but have also sparked discussions on safety protocols during eviction operations.
